What to expect
Your horse's first PEMF session is straightforward. Here's exactly what happens, from the moment we arrive at your barn.
We arrive and assess
We pull up to your barn with all equipment ready to go. Before touching the Magna Wave, we spend 10-15 minutes observing your horse — how they stand, how they shift weight, where they react to palpation. If your vet has provided any imaging or notes, we review those too. This assessment tells us where to focus and what intensity to use.
Setup and calibration
Your horse stays in their stall or is held in a quiet area — cross-ties work perfectly. No sedation is needed. We set up the Magna Wave unit and calibrate the coil to the appropriate intensity for your horse's size and condition. Most horses are curious about the equipment and settle quickly.
The treatment
We work the coil systematically across your horse's body — or focus on the targeted area if it's a focused session. The coil produces a rhythmic pulsing sensation. Most horses lean into it, lower their heads, lick and chew, or even close their eyes. Some yawn deeply. These are all signs of relaxation and positive response. A full body session takes 45-60 minutes; targeted sessions run about 30 minutes.
What to watch for after
Your horse can return to normal turnout immediately. Some horses are noticeably more relaxed or energetic for the rest of the day. Increased urination in the hours after treatment is normal — it's the body flushing released toxins. Some horses show improvement after a single session; others need 2-3 treatments before the full effect is apparent. For chronic conditions, we typically recommend an initial course of 3-5 sessions.
Follow-up plan
Before we leave, we'll share what we found during the session — areas of high reactivity, tension patterns, and anything noteworthy. We'll recommend a treatment schedule based on your horse's specific condition. For most horses, that's weekly sessions for 3-5 weeks initially, then moving to maintenance sessions every 2-4 weeks depending on need.
